About the project

AmeriCamp

AmeriCamp connects participants with summer camps across the United States. The mobile application manages the complete applicant journey—signup, profile creation, interviews, document uploads, stage-based payments, visa processing, and pre-departure logistics—through a guided, gamified experience with progress dashboards, badges, and real-time notifications. I led front-end development in React Native against a Ruby on Rails backend, turning a complex multi-step manual process into a transparent, intuitive flow across Android and iOS.

Project execution

Built for real world use

I built a resilient multi-stage onboarding system on Redux with versioned persisted state and per-stage snapshots, so applicants never lose progress. Payments run through a server-managed Stripe integration with 3DS flows, webhook reconciliation, and OCR card scanning that tokenizes immediately and discards images. Documents, signatures, and camera uploads move through presigned S3 URLs with client-side compression, chunked resumable transfers, and background tasks. Adaptive HLS video streaming with CDN caching keeps orientation content smooth on unstable networks.

Engineering depth

Hard problems, solved properly

01

Multi-stage state management

Redux with thunk/observable async flows, versioned persisted state, and migration functions—eliminating race conditions and corrupt-state desync across sessions.

02

Secure Stripe payments

Server-only tokenization keeps the app out of PCI scope; 3DS/SCA flows, webhook retries, and a reconciliation job keep every stage fee accounted for.

03

Signature & document capture

Native signature canvas exported at controlled resolution, plus camera and document uploads with compression, chunked resumable transfers, and progress tracking.

04

OCR card scanning

Card scanning with immediate in-memory tokenization—images are never stored, with manual entry as a privacy-safe fallback.

05

Adaptive video streaming

HLS playback with CDN caching, pre-buffering, and low-quality fallbacks for reliable viewing on slow networks.
